Cigarette Stained Lies Font Review

There’s something oddly comforting about starting a brand project with a blank canvas. I was working on a boutique skincare brand identity recently, and after selecting a color palette that felt fresh yet grounded, I needed a typeface that would bring the concept to life. That’s when I stumbled upon Cigarette Stained Lies, a handwritten font from Script Amp that immediately caught my eye.

A Timeless Handwritten Touch

Cigarette Stained Lies is a strong handwritten font that feels both authentic and refined. It carries a timeless quality that makes it feel like it could have been pulled from an old leather-bound journal or a vintage poster. The strokes are deliberate, with subtle variations in weight and flow that give it a natural, human feel. This kind of imperfection is what makes it stand out—it doesn’t feel machine-made, which is perfect for brands looking to convey authenticity and character.

The font has a certain mood to it. It leans slightly towards the dramatic, but not in a way that feels overdone. It’s versatile enough to work across a range of industries—from creative studios to handmade shops—but it still holds its own in more niche applications like café branding or editorial design.

Testing Cigarette Stained Lies in Real Projects

I tested Cigarette Stained Lies across several branding elements: a logo draft, a brand board, packaging mockups, business cards, and even a social media layout. Each time, the font performed well, especially when used as a display or headline font. On a product label, it added a touch of personality without overwhelming the design. In a website header, it helped create a focal point that drew the viewer in.

One of the best uses was on a shop sign for a local bakery. The font had enough visual weight to be legible from a distance, while still maintaining that handwritten charm. When paired with a clean sans-serif font for body text, it created a nice balance between creativity and readability.

On Instagram posts, Cigarette Stained Lies worked particularly well as a caption font. It gave the content a personal, artisanal feel that aligned perfectly with the brand’s voice. It wasn’t too ornate, so it didn’t interfere with the message being conveyed.

Where Cigarette Stained Lies Shines

This font excels as a display font, headline font, or short phrase font. It’s ideal for logos, taglines, packaging labels, and social media graphics. Its bold, expressive style makes it great for drawing attention and creating visual hierarchy in designs.

However, it’s not the best choice for long-form text or small sizes. If you’re using it for body copy, it can become hard to read, especially at smaller points. That said, if you’re designing a brand that values storytelling and a unique aesthetic, this font can help reinforce that narrative.

It also works well as an accent font. Pairing it with a serif or sans-serif font for body text can add depth and contrast to your design. I found that combining it with a modern sans-serif like Montserrat created a nice dynamic—traditional meets contemporary.

Practical Tips for Using Cigarette Stained Lies

If you're considering using Cigarette Stained Lies in client work, make sure to test it thoroughly. Try it on different backgrounds, in various sizes, and with different colors. It might look amazing on a white background, but it could get lost on a busy pattern or dark texture.

Also, check the licensing terms before using it in final deliverables. Some fonts require commercial licenses for use in print, web, or digital products. Always ensure you have the right permissions to avoid any legal issues down the line.

Finally, consider how the font aligns with the brand’s overall tone and audience. Cigarette Stained Lies has a distinct personality, so it may not be suitable for every project. But for those looking to add a touch of elegance and character, it's definitely worth exploring.
